A private investigator or private detective (often shortened to PI or private eye) is a person who can be hired by individuals or groups to undertake investigations.  Private investigators often work for legal and corporate companies including work for the insurance underwriters to investigate suspicious claims.  Many private investigators are ex police & military personnel however members of the public also decide to join the exciting world of a Private Investigator by gaining an insight from institutes and schools such as the Detective Agency Training Institute (DATI) to learn about the basics and advanced levels of detective work and achieve qualifications.  Others choose a career simply because they have an inquisitive mind and have a keen mind and willingness to develop the skills to be a professional Private investigator.
